I would suggest that if you plan on using your machine quite often or if you are professionally in the business of sewing that you make sure your machine comes with some sort of warranty. Now the good thing is that most machine brands come with an automatic warranty of at least one year. Some brands like Singer come with two years. The flip side is that these brand warranties mainly covers just parts and most times labor, cleaning and maintence are not included. So what do you do? You can buy extended warranties or additional warranties, however they can be rather expensive and sometimes more than what your machine is worth. So here are some suggestions:
1. Take care of your machines. Clean them regularly. Put them away properly. Cover them when not in use. This will help to prevent possible break downs.
2. Change your needles regularly.
3. For those that use your machines often, I would suggest Walmarts warranty plan for sewing machines. It a 2 year warrany for about $20. this warranty covers parts and labor. for more information check out walmart at www.walmart.com
