For sister who consider themselves sewing queens or who are first time at learning or are reacquainting yourself with the art and discipline of sewing should know that sewing is an important duty and task of the Muslim Woman who follows the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. It is a task and a duty that is to be practiced, learned and cultivated to upkeep ourselves, our homes, families and nation. Sewing is a life tool that teaches you so much about yourself. It teaches you about detail, patience, completing a task, honor, creativity, time management, femininity, and most of all how to do and rely on self. It is our job as the female, the mother, the wife to bring peace, comfort and happiness to our homes and our nation. Part of taking care of your home is mending and repairing as a way to please your husband and helping our families look neat, clean and presentable at all times.
Sewing is a creative expression that we receive from Allah. It is stated that man gives the idea, and as women being the helpmate of man we express his idea. Allah in the person of Master Fard Muhammad gave us instructiions on how to dress modestly and to be feminine and beautiful, and thus it then becomes our duty to express Allah's desires and through our feminine creativity become designers for Allah.
Sewing is empowering. It gives you endless choices and gives you the responsiblity of style, creativity, and repairing. If you can envision it you can create it. It gives you the power to lengthen or shorten sleeves, the power of style and color of your garment, thus given you the power to essentially bring your Godself into manifestation.
