Alteration: any change made to a pattern or garment that is being constructed or a change to a finshed garment. (Tip when altering a any garment pay attention to the part being altered and to the piece it is attaching to so that pieces fit properly together)

 Applique: small piece of fabric attached to a larger piece of fabric to create a design such as for emboridary.

Backstitiching: is sewing in reverse and then forward over the same stitches to lock the end of a line of sewing or seam. Backstitching prevents the stitiching from coming unsewn.

Baste:  a temporay joining of the fabric held by long loose stitches.

Bias Grain of Fabric: is the thread of line that is at a forty five degree angle to the lenghtwise and crosswise grain of the fabric as it on the bolt. The bias has stretch in woven fabric ans will hang diffrently than a garment that has been cut on the straight or crosswise grain. (tip always hang a bias garment for at least twently four hours before hemming it.

Bobbins: Either metal or plastic reels that hold thread. The bobbin holds the thread for your bottom stitch. It is important to keep several wound  with the colors you use frequently.

Catch: For holding two layers of fabric together. term use for handstitching.

Clean Finish: to turn your fabric under 1/8 to 1/4 of the raw edge of the fabric and then stitch close to the folded edge. also know as thr turned-and-stitch.

Clip seam: Cutting into the fabric seam allowance to aid in construction of the garment, such as when you have sewing corners or curves.

Couture: is the business of designing and producing fashionable, high quality custom made clothing.
